The bi-annual community-wide yard sale in Winona is scheduled for April 28, Winona Main Street Director Sue Stidham announced at the regular meeting of the Winona Board of Aldermen.
To officially participate in the yard sale, contact Stidham at 662-283-4828 to get your address added to the official sale map. If you do not live in Winona and want to participate in the sale, open areas will be available.
In other city business:
• Winona Parks Director Mike Narmour said the last three baseball tournaments scheduled at the Winona Recreational Park have been canceled due to rain.
Narmour said so far, recreational soccer has been delayed, which will put recreational baseball and softball behind.
• The board voted to hire Robert Keith Harris as a part-time employee at the Winona Recreational Park.
• The board accepted the resignation of Officer Bailey Lott with the Winona Police Department. The board hired Chris King to fill the vacant position.
• Reginald Moore with Congressman Bennie Thompson’s office invited the board to attend a Federal Resources Workshop on February 29 in Greenwood where officials can speak with representatives from 20 different federal agencies.
• The board voted to proceed with condemnation proceedings on properties located at 519 Church Street and 210 Gentsch Street.
• The board voted that the city would take a holiday on Good Friday rather than Confederate Memorial Day. The vote was 3-1, with Alderwoman Sarah Minnieweather casting the lone dissenting vote. Alderman Kelvin Winbush was not present at Tuesday’s meeting.
• The board voted to halt efforts to seek a Community Block Development Grant at this time.
• The board voted to send Winona’s Chief of Police Tommy Bibbs to the Mississippi Chief’s Convention in June.
• The board voted to proclaim March Safe Digging Month.
