KILMICHAEL – No charges will be filed in a shooting that occurred last week.
Police Chief David Eldridge said he was called to a home at 502 River Road around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19 in reference to a shot being fired. He said the owner, Toby Gant, said that a friend left his vehicle on his property and told Gant not to let anyone bother it.
Eldridge said the man’s father came and wanted to get something out of the truck that he left. He said an argument between Gant and the father took place and the father went toward the truck to get something and Gant assumed he was getting a gun. He said that’s when Gant shot him with a buck shot from a 12-gauge shotgun.
He said one of the buck shots hit him right above the top of his shoe and the other hit him in the big toe. He said the man was taken to a local area hospital and was treated and released.
“He said he wasn’t going to press charges because he shouldn’t have been where he was doing what he was doing,” Eldridge said.
