Conception is becoming a reality for board members of the Lodi-Minerva Road Volunteer Fire Department and residents of the Lodi area.
Currently, a sign sits at the corner of Lodi and Minerva Roads announcing “Future Site of the Lodi-Minerva Volunteer Fire Department.” However, soon a building will be erected to house the community’s volunteer fire department.
Board member Talmadge “Tee” Golding said the board is awaiting the release of $100,000 in grant funds awarded by the state earlier this year. At their last meeting, open bids from Littco, LLC of Louisville and Gray H. Little to do the foundation work and for the metal building.
Originally, the board advertised for one person to do both the foundation and the metal building and received one bid on the project. The bid was ultimately rejected, after the board decided to take quotes on separate projects.
“Like you would if you were building a house, instead of one person doing all the work, have one or two people to do the work,” Golding said.
Littco, LLC was the lowest bid with a foundation bid of $23,000 and $39,448 for the metal building.
Golding said once the money is in their account, they can give the okay to Littco.
“We hope its in by the end of this week or the first week in December, hopefully by the end of this week,” he said. “Then, we can give them the go ahead to start.”
