To break up the monotony of being quarantined, many people are participating in a “bear hunt” around the Carroll and Montgomery counties.
Businesses, residents, and even government officials have hidden bears in windows and on porches, and parents are taking their children around to see if they can spot out the bears.
Some are in plain sight and others, well, they’re harder to spot. The Town of Carrollton has joined in with the fun and are participating in the hunt. People place their bears and take pictures of them with cute sayings.
The prize? A trip out of the house, while still maintaining social distancing, and fun and excitement for children.
Jill Carpenter said she saw other towns doing a bear hunt and thought it would be good to start one in the area.
“I thought, why not do it here?” Carpenter said. She said she began the bear hunt and started a Facebook group as a way to help people find bears.
“We had a great response – way more than I anticipated! Within a day or two, our Facebook group was flooded with people posting pictures of their bears or stuffed animals in their windows or mailboxes or at the end of their driveways,” she said.
Dawn Martin, another participant she said thought the bear hunt would be a way for kids to enjoy themselves safely.
“I thought it would be something fun for the kids to do to get out of the house during this time at home,” Martin said.
The hunt has become so popular. Many are getting in on the action.
“I think the kids have enjoyed themselves hunting for bears throughout the town. It’s been a great activity for families to do while social distancing,” Carpenter said.
