Residents in Coila and Black Hawk can breathe for a moment now that Highway 17 has reopened temporarily.
Supervisor Claude Fluker said he spoke with Transportation Commissioner John Caldwell, and the two had a long conversation. He said Caldwell was nice and honest with him. Highway 17 was closed on Feb 25, when the road caved in due to flooding.
The closure was causing a headache for drivers, Fluker and Supervisor Dill Tucker. Fluker expressed his frustration during a board meeting, and a story was published in the Conservative. Subsequently, Caldwell read the story.
Fluker said the road would be open temporarily, once a company has won the bid to complete the work for Highway 17, the road will be closed again, but there will be a permanent fix for the road once the work is done.
“I’m real happy about it,” Fluker said.
