The town of Duck Hill has chosen a company to complete their pilot study on their water well on Wilson Street.
Back in 2016, the town received a grant to perform work on its water well. During Monday night’s board meeting, the board selected Freeman Water Treatment out of Jackson. The town also received proposals from Layne and Engineering Services.
Joe Sutherland, an engineer with Sutherland Engineering out of Grenada, said Freeman and Layne sent in proposals previously but also had a proposed price on them.
“They couldn’t have a price in the proposals so we had to reject both of them and re-advertise the project,” he said.
He said when the project was re-advertised, the board received three proposals. Sutherland recommended Freeman for the pilot study. John Wiggers with North Central Planning and Development District told the board that their Community Development Block Grant was almost out of time but the Mississippi Development Authority granted the town a six-month extension. The town also has an Appalachian Regional Authority grant to help with the project.
“Once they complete the pilot study, then Joe can come up with a plan, and we can then advertise for the construction part of the project and all three of the wells should be in working order,” Wiggers told Duck Hill Mayor Joey
