The town of North Carrollton and the Carroll County Board of Supervisors are considering partnering together for a grant to build bathrooms near the Tabernacle.
Chris Pope with North Central Planning and Development District told supervisors that because of their ongoing projects with their nature trails at the recreation park in Carrollton and at the park in Vaiden that they couldn’t apply for the Nature Trail grant until they completed their projects.
However, he said the town of North Carrollton could apply for the 80/20, which is an 80 percent coverage and a 20 percent match from the town. But, instead of the town putting up the 20 percent, the county could put it up or use in kind donations to cover the 20 percent.
He said Supervisor Jim Neill had also spoken to him about a nature trail at Big Sand Creek. He told supervisors the other option they had was to apply for a 50/50 grant from Land and Water Conservation.
“The money has always been available but it’s been tied up because they (Land and Water Conservation) have use it for state parks,” Pope said. “Now, the money is available this year.” He said the Nature Trail grant has a bigger pool of money than the Land and Water Conversation grant.
Pope asked if supervisors had a name for the project.
“No, but I can have you one by the end of today,” Supervisor Jim Neill said.
North Carrollton Mayor Ken Strachan, who was at the meeting in his role as the Emergency Management Director, told Pope that he could come talk to the board about the idea.
“I think that the town of North Carrollton should just apply for it and we join in and help,” Supervisor Terry Brown said. All of the supervisors agreed with Brown.
