Voters in the city limits of Duck Hill will return to the polls next Tuesday to vote in a runoff election between Shernell Brown-Everett and Tommy Earl White.
Brown-Everett and White garnered the most votes in a special election to fill the seat vacated by the death Alderman Leroy Nash. In the special election, Brown-Everett led White by just two votes. Brown-Everett received 34 votes and White received 32 votes.
Tyrone Harbin finished third with 22 votes, followed by Jacqueline Eskridge with 11 votes and Wynette Robinson with 8.
City Clerk LaSonja Sizemore said voter turnout for the election was very low with only 107 people voting in the election. In order for either Brown-Everett or White to win the election, they must have 50 percent plus one of the votes cast.
Polls will open at 7 a.m. next Tuesday at Duck Hill Town Hall and will remain open until 7 p.m. The newly-elected alderwoman or man will attend her or his first meeting on Monday, Feb. 9.
