For the second week, Carroll County has been listed as one of the counties with a high incidence over a two week period. During the weeks of October 12 through October 25, Carroll County saw 81 new cases. 31 of those cases were reported during the week of October 25.
The Carroll County School District and the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District reported COVID-19 outbreaks during the week of October 19 through the 23. Currently, Carroll has reported 515 positive cases of COVID-19 since March 11.
Montgomery County has reported 569 cases since March 11.
Carroll County is currently under a mask mandate ordered by Gov. Tate Reeves because of a significant increase in cases the county saw two weeks ago. The Governor’s mandate will expire for the county on Nov. 11.
In Carroll County, J.Z. George High School reported 1-5 teachers and 1-5 students reported positive cases, 43 students were quarantined and an outbreak was reported. At Marshall Elementary, 1-5 teachers and 1-5 students reported positive cases, two teachers and 10 students were quarantined. The district is opted to go virtual for two weeks due to several support staff contracting the virus. Students will return on Nov. 11.
The Jaguars were still able to play their last regular season football game in a battle for district champs against the Calhoun City Wildcats.
In Montgomery County, Winona Secondary reported 1-5 teachers and 6 students reported positive cases, eight teachers and 100 students were quarantined as an outbreak was reported at the school. Winona Elementary School did not report.
Charlie Parkerson, director of operations for the WMCSD, said that the school’s football team had been placed under quarantine, due to one coach and four players testing positive with the coronavirus. The Tigers were not able to play their last regular season game on October 29. However, all students and the coach returned to school this week and will take on Kossuth at home Friday.
During the week of Oct. 24, Carroll County reported 31 new cases and no new deaths. 28 of those cases were reported in the county and three of those cases were reported because of the outbreak at a long-term care facility. Montgomery County reported 19 new cases and no new deaths. None were reported due to an outbreak.
