Winona High School’s boys basketball team had its six-game win streak snapped with a 75-55 loss at Grenada High School on Dec. 16.
The Tigers, who slip to 11-3, only trailed 12-9 after the first period but fell behind 29-20 by halftime. A 19-14 run in the third quarter by the Chargers gave the home team a 48-34 lead headed to the fourth period.
Cliff Lee led Winona with 22 points, and Jaiwain Small chipped in 10. Mykel McGee had nine, and DJ Lee tallied eight.
In the girls game, Grenada beat the Lady Tigers 66-35 as it led 28-21 at the half and 47-25 after the third period.
Jayla Campbell led Winona with 11 points, and Ariella Jones had six. Jasmine McMath and Za’Miya Griffin had five points each, and Ja’Najah Turner had four points.
In games from Dec. 13 at home against Ethel, the Tigers knocked off Ethel 76-43 as they led 22-4 after one, 40-14 at the half and 62-30 after the third quarter.
Lee led Winona with 14 points, five assists, five rebounds and five steals. Tyler Lockhart also had 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Small tacked on 11 points, had five rebounds, made four assists and had three steals. TJ Lockhart had 10 points and six boards.
In the girls game, Ethel posted a 35-28 win as it led 9-7 after one and 14-13 at the half. The Lady Jags took a 24-19 lead after the third period only to be outscored 16-4 in the fourth quarter.
Campbell paced Winona with 14 points. Griffin finished with seven. The Lady Tigers were 0-17 from the free-throw line.
Winona plays at Coffeeville Tuesday.
