J.Z. George senior D’Anthony “Yogi’ McGlothan was named the Region 4-2A Offensive Player of the Year by the head coaches in the district.
McGlothan was a do-it-all player for the Jaguars this past season as they went 7-5 and made it to the second round of the North 2A playoffs. He also starred for them on defense at safety, and he returned punts and kicks.
McGlothan has received offers from Northeast Mississippi Community College, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Holmes Community College.
McGlothan is joined on the Region 4 Super 25 team by several teammates. Senior Alex Criss was chosen as a wide receiver, and senior Alan Busby and junior Jeremy Rias made the team as offensive linemen.
Junior Keiyhaun Wilks was selected at defensive end, and senior Laike Shute was selected as an inside linebacker. Senior Kendarius Head made the team at outside linebacker, and senior Da’Ravion Seals is a cornerback. Jordun Normal was chosen as the athlete.
Honorable mentions for J.Z. George are Brandon McKenzie, Terry Malone, James Journey, Jakolbie Cobbins, Ja’Darius Fluker and Jorden Cobbins.
The Leflore County High School football coaching staff received the award as the Coaching Staff of the Year voted on by the head coaches. The Tigers lost to Scott Central in the Class 2A state championship game.
Leflore’s Dekari “Turbo” Johnson was named the Region 4 Most Valuable Player, and Leflore’s Javorius Sherrod was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year.
