The Winona Library will be closed May 30 for Memorial Day. We will reopen May 31 with our regular business hours.
In person registration is coming up for the Summer Reading Program, “An Ocean of Possibilities”. Children can begin registering May 23. We are so excited to have children in the library this summer! Fun awaits in June with many activities and programs scheduled. Be sure to come register your child and pick up a Summer Reading schedule. You can also register a child online if you prefer through the Beanstack app. Every child or teen under 18 who registers for the Summer Reading Program in-person or online will be eligible to receive a free drawstring backpack with goodies (while supplies last). The backpacks will feature the new MMRLS mascot, Zim. For questions and additional information call the library at 283-3443.
The first program scheduled for the summer is June 6 at 2:00 pm. Freedom Ranch Wildlife Center from Purvis, Mississippi will join us. Freedom Ranch has visited our library before and is always a big hit with the children. They will have a very educational show and bring a variety of animals. The Freedom Ranch program is sponsored in part by the Bank of Winona.
If you or your business is interested in sponsoring or helping sponsor a program at the library, give us a call at 283-3443 for more information. Program sponsors who donate a minimum of $50 will be featured prominently on the library’s program publicity, including print and social media.
Be sure to follow us on Facebook at Winona-Montgomery County Library to keep up to date on the library’s latest news.
With summer coming up we ask that parents and caregivers familiarize themselves and follow our Children in the Library Policy which states:
• Children not yet 6 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or responsible caregiver at all times throughout the library and on library premises. (Caregiver must be age 12 or older and carry emergency contact information).
• Children ages 6 to 9 may use the library on their own, but the parent or responsible caregiver must be in the building or on library premises and are responsible for the actions of the child.
• If children aged 6 to 9 are participating in a supervised program, the parent or responsible caregiver should remain in the building or on library premises.
• Youth ages 10 to 17 may be left alone in the library without a parent or caregiver. However, the responsibility for the safety and behavior of children in library rests with the parent or caregiver and not with the library staff.
Copies of our complete Children in the Library Policy are available at the library.
