Kilmichael Librarian Sandra Britt, has announced several upcoming events at the Kilmichael Library. Since her start as the new librarian in September, Britt has been working to make the library a fun, welcoming place for children and adults alike.
“I have been cleaning and freshen[ing the library] up, and I have been posting on Facebook any event being held. [I’m] trying to display the sign outside the library to let the public know what is going on. I post all the new books that are coming in weekly,” said Britt.
One of the events that was recently held at Kilmichael Library was the first of two quilting classes from 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 19.
Four local women gathered on Jan. 19 to learn a new skill and enjoy the bright, open atmosphere of Kilmichael Library. Refreshments were served, and the women ended up spending the whole day learning and quilting, according to Britt.
The class, taught by Instructor Brandy Allen, gave the women the opportunity to make a square as a way of learning the process of quilting.
“We had fun,” said Britt. She went on to say that while several people were surprised that the women spent the whole day quilting, the process of getting together, discussing how to quilt, and then going through material and figuring out the pattern took a while.
“One of them didn’t do anything but sit over to the side [and] watched. She said, ‘I’ve never touched the sewing machine, I’m just sitting here watching this, but next week I’m getting involved,’” explained Britt.
The next quilting class will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Along with this event, there are several events to look forward to at the Kilmichael Library:
