Still in search of its first win of the season, J.Z. George hits the road Friday night to face the Panthers of Yazoo County High School.
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Yazoo City.
The Jaguars stand at 0-9 overall and 0-3 in Region 3-3A after dropping a 20-0 decision to Humphreys County High School of Belzoni last Friday night.
J.Z. George is the only winless team in the district. Charleston High School (7-2 overall) is 3-0 in league play and hosts Humphreys County (3-6, 1-2) Friday night. The other district game on tap for Friday has Ruleville (4-3, 2-1) visiting Amanda Elzy (4-5, 1-2).
Yazoo County is 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the region after posting a 26-18 hard-fought win over Elzy last week. The Panthers have been outscored 173-106 on the season, but have won three of their last four games after starting the season 1-3.
The Panthers ran for 115 yards on 33 carries and passed for 104 yards against Elzy. Quarterback Ben Luckett was 9-of-18 with two touchdowns and one interception. Kory Gainwell had 70 yards rushing on 16 tries.
The Jaguars have been shut out in their last two games by a combined score of 70-0. They lost 50-0 to Charleston two weeks ago. Their Region 3 opener was a 29-14 loss to Ruleville on Sept. 28.
Wins in their final two games — next week they host Elzy — and the Jaguars could be playing extra football.
