The J.Z. George cross-country team has picked up the pace as the state meets near in early November.
The Jaguars and Lady Jaguars competed in the Kirk Academy Invitational in Grenada on Oct. 8. The boys placed fifth overall with a score of 127 points. Cleveland Central was first with 40 points, and Tupelo was second with 55 points. Madison Ridgeland Academy came in third with 57 points, and Pillow Academy was fourth with 95 points. Houston was sixth with 146 points.
For the Jaguars, senior Chris Rias led the way with a 19th-place finish in a time of 22:07.35. Teammate Marquinn Watt placed 30th overall in a time of 24:07.05. Colten Brashear was 44th in 26:42.36, and Jakoby Westbrook was 49th with a time of 27:42.36.
Jordan Cobbins was 52nd with a time of 27:52.26, and Jeterrion Reaves was 53rd with a time of 27:52.72. Keldrick Glover was 62nd with a time of 30:44.21.
For the Lady Jaguars, they placed sixth overall with a point total of 170. MRA came in first with 22 points, and Kirk was second with 57 points. Central Holmes placed third with 82 points, and Cleveland Central was fourth with 105 points. Pillow was fifth with 111 points.
Aniya Williams had the best finish for J.Z. George as she was 36th overall with a time of 31:19.27. Kamiya Williams came in 50th place with a time of 34:48.18, and Dekeria Walls was 58th with a time of 38:19.81.
Natijah Basin was 59th overall with a time of 40:52.92, and Denijah Walls was 60th with a time of 44:34.00. Janiya Hoover was 61st with a time of 44:35.00, and Sharrissa Gladness was 62nd with a time of 44:36.00.
The Jaguars also ran in a meet recently in Clinton at Choctaw Trails. It was a 5K run.
Ceasa Glenn was 67th overall in the Division 2 field in a time of 21:33.31. Prentice Archie was 79th overall in 22:05.39, and Watt was 98th overall with a time of 22:58.22. Alexander Criss came in 132nd overall with a time of 24:24.36, and Rias was 140th in 24:55.13.
D'Anthony McGlothin was 145th overall with a time of 25:16.35, and Colten Brashear was 152nd in 26:10.81. Cobbins came in 179th with a time of 29:12.27, and Jonquavian Green was 180th with a time of 29:20.71. Fred Howard followed him at 181 with a time of 29:22.21. Reaves placed 198th with a time of 34:10.63, and Glover was 199th with a time of 34:10.76.
J.Z. George will run today (Thursday) at the Winona High School meet.
