RIDGELAND — The Winona boys and girls basketball teams were defeated by Germantown, a 5A school, at the Ridgeland Holiday Shootout on Friday night. The boys were beaten 93-42 and the girls 60-21.
The Germantown boys jumped out to a 7-0 lead and were never challenged. It was 23-9 after one quarter as A.J. Edwards scored 13 of his team-high 15 points during the period.
Davandre Bays led the Tigers in scoring, with 15 points, and rebounding, with six. James Shelton had 13 points.
Winona’s top two scorers, Jaren Daniels and Sean Merritt, missed the game.
The Lady Tigers took an early 9-6 lead after MyCala Helms scored seven straight point. But Germantown took command by scoring 10 straight points. Winona managed only 12 points over the final 27 minutes while shooting 20 percent (8 of 40) for the game.
