There will be a runoff in the District 15 Senate seat race between Bart Williams of Starkville and Joyce Meek Yates of Eupora. The winner of the October 13 run-off election will complete the remainder of the term vacated by former Senator Gary Jackson of French Camp.
The race was a four person race between Williams, Yates, Bricklee Miller of Starkville, and Levon Murphy, Jr. of Ackerman.
The Commerical Dispatch reports that the final count of Tuesday’s votes shows Williams with 2,942 votes and Yates had 2,442 votes
Miller garnered 2,154 votes and Murphy received 1,24 votes. Affidavit votes are still be counted and a person has five days to show ID for their vote to count.
District 15 covers portions of Montgomery, Webster, Choctaw and Oktibbeha Counties.
In Montgomery County, Miller received 150 votes, Yates received 135, Murphy received 82 and Williams received 66.
Yates led her home county of Webster with 1,282 votes followed by Miller, Murphy and Williams.
In Choctaw, Williams led with 624 votes, followed by Yates, Murphy and Miller, with two write-ins.
Results for Oktibbeha County are Williams 1,960, Miller 1,358, Yates, 557, and Murphy 523.

Yates also thanked her supporters on social media. “We did it, and it's all because of YOU! I am so grateful for the support we received today. Let's keep the momentum going into the runoff on October 13. I look forward to listening, working, and meeting with you on the campaign trail. I am thrilled to keep working for your support. Please know how thankful I am for this opportunity.”
Miller wrote on her Facebook page that she reached out to Williams and Yates and congratulated them on advancing.
