The National Weather Service in Jackson is forecasting an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms across Central Mississippi today and into the evening. Carroll and Montgomery counties are included in the area of enhanced risk.
According to the forecast, there is the potential for severe storms that include strong tornados, large hail, and damaging wind from mid-day through the evening hours.
Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District’s students and staff will participate in an at-home learning day today and will return to campus tomorrow, according to Dr. Teresa Jackson, superintendent of education.
Carroll County School District will also participate in virtual learning
Winona-Montgomery joins nine other school districts in central and northeast Mississippi that opted for at-home or virtual learning Thursday. Neighboring Webster County students will also be studying from home.
As of press time Wednesday, Jimmy Pittman, headmaster of Winona Christian School, said classes will go on as usual today.
