Lisa Breazeale has always had a love for reading. Born and raised in Kilmichael, Breazeale said it’s jokingly a tradition in her family, as she, her aunts, and cousins all are bookworms.
These days, Breazeale’s love of reading turned lucrative when she was named the new librarian of the Kilmichael Public Library.
Filling the position vacated by Carrie Varnes, Breazeale said she wants to continue the programs that are already in place, once the uncertainty of the pandemic eases.
“I was the president of the [Kilmichael] Friends of the Library, and Carrie and I worked on a lot of programs together,” she said.
Breazeale said she hopes to get back started with programs once she’s able to, and she hopes more and more people will come and check out books.
Each year, with the exception of 2020, the Kilmichael Public Library holds the Taste of Kilmichael and summer reading program for local children.
“We did a lot of unique and interesting things,” she said. “We were disappointed we didn’t get to do that this year.”
Breazeale hopes to bring in more patrons by letting readers in on what she’s reading.
“I’m going to start reviewing the books that I’m reading on the Kilmichael Library’s Facebook page,” she said.
One of the programs and a community event the library helps sponsor is the Kilmichael Truck or Treat, however, because of COVID-19 restrictions, she said she’s not sure if they’re going to be able to be involved if it’s held, which she also isn’t sure will happen.
Not only does Breazeale love to read, but she also is a hairstylist at Southern Sass. Breazeale said she’s been working as a hairstylist for 17 years, and because the library is only open five hours a day, she can still see her clients at the salon. So her days are filled with the things she loves -- reading and hair.
Breazeale and her husband, Chris, have three boys, Jase, Emmett, and Elliott.
