While other towns are being “spooked” and giving out candy galore to awaiting trick-or-treaters, Duck Hill is taking a different and a more active approach.
On Oct. 30, there will be a “Spooking out Drugs” Drug Awareness program along with a joint trunk-or-treat. The event will take place at the old gym on Main Street.
Shernell Everett said October is drug awareness month, and organizers wanted to do something that was educational and also fun for families.
Everett said there will be a narcotics agent on hand that will show parents what they should look for in an addiction and what new drugs and things teens are doing to achieve a high.
“Now, there’s a drug that looks like a baby pacifier that’s literally frying their brains and instead of binge drinking, they are pouring alcohol into the rectum and it’s going into their blood stream directly, that way the police can’t smell it.”
Everett said a lot of parents have no idea what they’re children are doing this will teach them what to look for, what’s out there are what they should be aware of concerning their children and the pressures they face.
