“A Time for Everything, a season for every activity under the heavens". Ecclesiastes 3:1
The Winona High School class of 1955 joined together once again on Saturday, June 22 at the home of Gloria Middleton to embrace and reminisce about yesterdays and plans for tomorrow. Gloria says, " Our class has always been close. Letters are sent to class members to relate happenings during the years. We get together every Spring due to our ages and want to continue to do so."
What is a gathering without fried chicken, potato salad, pasta salads, strawberries and cakes! "Pull up a chair and talk" were familiar words in each circle. Bud Knight and Jimmy Knight shared their sports memories, which I want to include in another article. With Gloria's hospitality and the love each class member has for one another, it made for a memorable afternoon. You know you're having a great time when it's sad to leave. As I was walking to my car, I looked back at the scene, with a yard -full of cars, the stately Oak trees spreading their limbs, the pets who made their presence known for a brief meeting, the echoes of laughter and I thought how perfect this time was. Interesting that not one person seemed bothered by the heat... Thank you, Lord, for this day, June 22, 2024.
In attendance were Bea Kidd, Nona Tillman, Jimmy Knight, Martha Knight Jim Knight, Bud Knight, Betty Knight, Bobby Grantham, Wayne Bush, Celeste Ferguson Bush, Sam Pittman, Barbara McDougal Pittman, Bill Oliver, Becky Oliver Allere, Patsy Sykes Hayward and Melissa, Joan Burns Herring ,Chandler Herring, Buddy Butts, LaVon Butts, Eugene Hathcock, Gloria Middleton, Neal Sumner, Janyce La Grand, Margaret Herring, Jim Butts, Chris McNamara and Bootsie Weed. In a town the size of Winona, and as a graduate of the class of 1963, I grew up knowing these graduates and their families. Of course, it helped to have older cousins and a "big" sister to tag along with. They were her friends, thus mine .
Recall it as often as you wish
A happy memory never wears out.
