Winona Christian will have five players and a coach in this week’s MAIS All-star football game, while Carroll Academy will have two athletes participating.
Colby Marlow, Blake Marlow, Holland Ingram, Corley Goss and Jake Sutton each made the game for WCS. Ingram, Goss and the Marlows will play for the White team while Coach Junior Graham will be an assistant for the team. Sutton will be on the blue team.
Making the team from Carroll Academy is Jeb Beck and Logan Hodges.
The game will be played on Friday at 3 p.m. at Jackson Prep.
Leading the way for the Stars is Corley Goss, who rushed for 1,200 yards this year and helped take Winona to the district championship and the No. 2 seed in the Class AA playoffs.
“He really blossomed at tailback this year,” Graham said. “Once we started giving them the ball, the rest was history. He came up really big for us in district play and was a big reason why we won that district championship.”
The Marlow cousins also made the game.
“Colby played middle linebacker for us and had over 100 tackles last year,” Graham said. “He stayed healthy this year and was really the anchor of the defense. He had a really good year. Blake played free safety and fullback and did a little bit of everything for us. He has over 70 tackles and rushed for over 300 yards. He was also our kicker and was one of those guys that we could do a lot with. He could go from free safety to linebacker or from fullback to tailback. I think that will help him out in this all-star game.”
Holland Ingram also made the game after a standout senior year. Ingram played fullback and strongside linebacker.
“Holland also had over 100 tackles this year and rushed for over 500 yards,” Graham said. “He is a three-year starter for us and can play several spots on defense. He has enough moxie about him that he could play on the defensive line if they needed him to.”
Sutton, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound lineman will get to play against his teammates in the game.
"He played offensive and defensive line for us,” Graham said. “He played center early in the year and then we moved him to guard. Over the last two years, he has been moved from pillar to post. He’s very athletic and has excelled for us on the offensive line.”
Beck led the Rebels in rushing with 934 yards on 176 carries and seven touchdowns.
“Jeb started the last two years for us,” Carroll Coach Bo Milton said. “He missed all but one game of his sophomore year with a knee injury. But he worked hard and had two good years. He did everything we asked him to do. We depended on him a lot this year. He will be missed and is very deserving of this honor.”
Hodges, a 6-foot-1, 265-pound lineman, made the game after being a three-year starter on defense. He started the last two years on the offensive line.
“He’s very athletic for his size,” Milton said. “We put him at weakside guard because he pulled so good. He moves really well for a big guy. He has played hard the last three years for us and is deserving of this honor.”
