A Vaiden man is facing burglary of a building charges.
According to Vaiden Chief of Police Ickret Bennett, Benjamin “Midnight” Yancy, 53, of Vaiden has been arrested and charged with burglary of a building. He is currently waiting for his initial appearance which should be held this morning.
Bennett said on Tuesday night at around 9:30 p.m., a resident at 404 Magnolia in Vaiden called 911 to report that a man was breaking into the shed on his property. As police were responding to the call, another caller called to report a man running from the shed, and a moment after, another caller reported a man hiding in her utility shed.
Bennett said he and Carroll County Deputy Roshaun Daniels responded and found the suspect inside the shed.
“We found a drill and a socket set with the suspect that had been reported stolen from the other home,” Bennett said. “The [resident] identified the stuff that was stolen.”
Bennett said during the course of the investigation, it was determined that the burglar entered the shed through a window after removing a window air conditioning unit.
“The resident was watching TV, when the alarm to the shed went off,” Bennett said. “He noticed his air conditioner laying on the ground.”
Bennett said the suspect kicked the door in to leave the shed which was locked on the outside.
Yancy could face additional charges as the investigation continues, Bennett said.
Currently, Yancy is being held at the Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility in Vaiden.
