J.Z. George went 2-3 on the diamond this past week in prep baseball action, falling to 2-5 overall.
After not playing since March 2, the Jaguars finally got to hit the field on March 18 as they pulled off a doubleheader sweep of visiting McAdams High School, winning the first game 15-2 and taking the second contest 20-5.
In the first game, the Jags took advantage of 15 walks issued by McAdams pitching. Athan Shute got the win as he went two innings, allowing both runs on three hits, walking one and fanning five.
Nathan Carpenter and Michael Bankston had a single each. Carpenter had two RBIs, and Josh May, Bankston, Jacob Johnson, Robbie Clunan, Shute and Kendrick Head drove in one run each.
The Jags collected five hits and were issued 17 walks in the second game. J.Z. George scored two runs in the first and nine runs each in the second and third frames. McAdams plated one in the first and two each in the second and third.
Shute drove in four runs with three singles and two runs scored. Cory Clay had a single, anRBI, three runs scored and walked twice. Bankston had three RBIs, and Alan Busby had a single and scored two runs. Johnson scored twice, had two RBIs and drew three walks, and Laike Shute and Kelyhaun Wilkes had an RBI and scored two runs each.
Carpenter got the win as he went 2 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on three hits, walking three and fanning four. Bankston got the final two outs, striking out two.
The Jaguars went to Yazoo County on March 20 as the host Panthers claimed a 17-4 win. J.Z. George could only muster one run in the top of the fourth and three in the third. Yazoo County plated seven in the first, three runs each in the second and third innings, and four in the fourth.
Kendrick Head started on the mound and went one-plus innings as he yielded eight runs on six hits, walking two and fanning one. Bankston worked two innings in relief, giving up five runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out three. Johnson started the fourth inning, getting only one out as he allowed four runs on three hits.
Bankston had a double, and JJ Rias, WilTavious Williams, Johnson and Clunan had a single each.
In the JV game, Yazoo County beat the Jaguars 9-2. Deriaun Townsend, Brandon McKenzie and LaDarrius Peterson had a single each.
On March 21, the Jaguars committed 16 errors as they were defeated 24-0 by Ethel High School in North Carrollton.
Ethel scored 17 runs in the first inning, six in the second and one in the third. The Jaguars were held hitless as three Ethel pitchers did not allow a base runner for the perfect-game performance.
The Jaguars lost their third straight game as Humphreys County picked up a 29-1 win on March 22 in North Carrollton.
Humphreys County scored five runs in the first inning, and 12 runs each in the second and third innings. The Cowboys collected nine hits and took advantage of 24 walks issued by J.Z. George pitchers.
Rias had a double and RBI for the Jaguars. Head stole two bases and scored the only run.
Bankston started on the mound for the Jags, going 1.1 innings, allowing 14 runs on six hits, walking 10 and fanning two. Head worked one inning, yielding 10 runs on one hit, walking 10 and striking out three. Johnson got one out in the third, giving up five runs on two hits, walking four and striking out one.
J.Z. George, which played host to Amanda Elzy Tuesday, entertains Eupora High School Thursday at 4 p.m. The Jaguars host Yazoo County Friday and take on Riverside in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. J.Z. George is slated to visit Central Holmes Monday.
