For 20 plus years, Sandy Williams worked as an administrative assistant with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality in Oxford. Williams, who’s originally from Carrollton, recently retired and wanted to do something different for a change.
Call it perfect timing, but around the time Williams decided to retire, Carrollton’s longtime town clerk Linda McGregor decided to retire after many, many decades on the job.
“My mom found out about the job,” Williams said.
“Yeah, she went to the courthouse and come down here and asked me about it,” McGregor added. After meeting Williams, aldermen hired her to fill McGregor’s position. She said feels that Carrollton’s in great hands with Williams.
Williams said being a town clerk is different from any job that she’s ever worked and she wants to learn everything that she can about the job.
“I hope Mrs. Linda is patient with me as she teaches me,” Williams said.
Friday, the town of Carrollton will have a meet and greet for Williams from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for the public to get to know Williams better at town hall.
