Playing with fire?
Beautiful red and gold, glimmerings flying up to the sky, warmth reaching out to give you a needed hug to keep the cold away, and a way to cook a comforting dinner.
But, of course, fire also holds the keys to disaster, destruction, and a searing agonizing death.
We are taught about fire as little ones to protect us. Used properly and safely fire can change life for the better, of course!

Native may be the new buzzword for choosing landscape plants, but it often gets in the way of good gardening.
Not knocking native plants; after all, this past president of the Mississippi Native Plant Society grows and lectures on their benefits and uses. But when it comes to translating their crucial role in supporting wildlife and creating a “sense of place” in our region into tangible action, a lot gets lost in good intentions and lip service. Being native may not be the tipping point for getting them into gardens, at least for most folks.

I was pondering all the things that are different or strange that happen in our lives. Some I never would have ever thought about but yet have come about in my life.
As I have said I have broken so many bones it seems unimaginable that I am still able to ambulate upright. I have had both my shoulders replaced, my right ankle, and my left femur has been reworked in steel form thigh to ankle. I have even broken a toe but as minor as that was considering the other breaks, I found the toe on an x-ray when I had an x-ray for sciatica.

The effort of our communities working together has been terrific, not only in the recovery from the tornado, but also in response to the January 2026 ice storm.
