Mississippi counties included in the tornado watch include Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clay, Coahoma, Desoto, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Oktibbeha, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Washington, Webster, Yalobusha and Yazoo.
The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch for portions of Eastern Arkansas and Northern and Central Mississippi until 11 p.m. Sunday, March 15.
Several tornadoes are likely with a couple intense tornadoes possible. Widespread damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 80 mph are also likely while scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events up to 2 inches in diameter are possible.

Corey Wiggins, a Hazlehurst native and federal co-chair of the Delta Regional Authority, will be the next president of Tougaloo College effective July 1.
He will be the 15th president in the school’s 157-year-history, succeeding Donzell Lee.
Tougaloo’s Board of Trustees appointed Wiggins as president Friday after a yearlong national search.

The company said Thursday that the collective bargaining agreement for union-represented shipbuilders provides historic wage growth of 35% to 47% through 2031.
All five union organizations at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula have now ratified new collective bargaining agreements with HII, following voting by their members. The new contract will run through March 8, 2031.
Employing more than 11,000 employees, Ingalls Shipbuilding is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi.

The Senate Public Health Committee adopted a strike-all amendment to the House’s Pharmacy Benefit Manager reform bill this week that removed steering prohibitions.
During discussion of HB 1665, State Senator Rita Parks (R) said the strike-all amendment addresses several major concerns with the original version of the bill.

The Mississippi Business Alliance warns lawmakers that mandating high dispensing fees will contribute to already skyrocketing health care costs.
The Mississippi Business Alliance and its members have come out in opposition to the strike-all amendment to HB 1665, which passed the Senate Public Health Committee last week.
HB 1665 is the House’s Pharmacy Benefit Manager reform bill authored by State Rep. Hank Zuber (R). It is the only measure alive this session to put forth PBM reforms.

“A Home for Every Child” is intended to help reduce red tape, modernize the licensure process, and ensure more children are not staying in hotels or other non-traditional housing.

In 1971, a royal celebration was held in Iran. It was the 2,500th birthday of the Iranian monarchy, a rule which began with King Cyrus the Great of Persia in 539 BC and continued (with a few interregnums) to the reign of Shah Muhammad Reza Pahlavi in the 20th century. Shah Pahlavi ascended to the Iranian throne in 1941, making 1971 not only a celebration of the Persian monarchy lasting two and a half millennia, but also the Shah’s 30-year Jubilee.

State Senator Johnny DuPree sought to have Mississippi get ahead of the confusion by implementing rounding guidance for cash purchases. The bill died in committee.
The U.S. Mint ceased production of pennies in November 2025 after President Donald Trump (R) issued an executive order to end production of the one cent coin. Trump called continuing to mint the coin “wasteful” as it was costing more than double its value to produce.
