Three hundred eighty-one students have been named to the Union University Dean's List for the fall 2025 semester.
The Dean's List includes full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average on a four-point scale.
Founded in 1823 and affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention, Union University is characterized by quality Christ-centered teaching and learning. Union offers liberal arts training in more than 100 majors and programs of study along with professional programs in fields such as business, education, nursing, pharmacy and social work.

GREGORY KENT PAYNE
OCTOBER 28, 1964 — DECEMBER 17, 2025
Gregory Kent Payne age 61, passed away at his residence in Maben, Mississippi on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Gregory was born on October 28, 1964, in Tupelo, Mississippi to Kent Miller Payne and Brenda Joyce Scarbrough Payne. He was employed in retail until becoming disabled due to illness.
Gregory is survived by his wife, Lynda Morgan Payne of Maben, Mississippi; his father, Kent Miller (Elva Kay) Payne of Starkville, Mississippi.

Graveside services for Penelope B. “Penny” Sheffield, 86, of Statesboro, Georgia, will be at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 29, 2025, at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Choctaw County.
She was born Jan. 4, 1939. Mrs. Sheffield died Dec. 16, 2025, at Westwood Nursing Center in Statesboro.
Survivors include her son Jim A. Sheffield Jr.; two daughters, Alice and Kathie Sheffield; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro and Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora are in charge of arrangements.
