As of this writing, I am attending the Mississippi Municipal League’s Mid-Winter Legislative Conference “Local Leaders, Lasting Impact” in Jackson. This legislative conference brings municipal officials from across the state who will be hearing from state leaders at MML’s Capitol Day during the conference and planning for the future. I’m reminded of how important tourism is for our area and this state. Growing up here in Carroll County, I have always been aware of the abundance of history that our area has to offer; that goes from the landmarks to the stories behind them.

Here are a few facts about January: The January calendar features holidays, such as New Year's Day and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 19.
While not an officially recognized holiday, an important figure in American History was born January 17, that being Benjamin Franklin.
Benjamin Franklin's image appears on the $100 bill! There are businesses, schools and towns across America named after him.

Tonight, I get to go to a supper event where one of my heroes will be at, Coach Ron Polk. I am VERY, VERY excited!!!! Anytime I get to listen to somebody who I admire or somebody who I think is a hero my day is made. So, what makes a hero? Well for me, I look at the character of the person, their contributions to their field, and their contributions to the community.

President Trump is a master at keeping attention on himself, but when he goes too far he exposes himself to criticism.
Sometimes this is well deserved. A good example is the recent news that his Justice Department has issued subpoenas to leaders of the Federal Reserve over Senate testimony about the $2.5 billion cost of renovating the central bank’s 90-year-old building in Washington.
