New Orleans, La. – The Lady Crusaders fought until the end Monday night, but their remarkable run came to a close as Loyola held off a late surge to win 69–63. The loss snaps William Carey's incredible 57-game regular-season win streak and a 39-game conference win streak, a streak that stretched over two unforgettable years.

If you’ve been wondering where I have been over the past several weeks — the truth is I’ve been in hibernation.
No, not hibernation from the cold weather, but hibernation from distractions while I wrote the 2026 Pine Belt Baseball Preview Magazine, which you should have in your hands very soon.
Anytime we get notifications on our phones about potentially dangerous cold weather, it only means that for all of us in the South, baseball season is right around the corner.

The committee also passed measures to explore future school district consolidations, restrict the use of cellphones in schools, and have civics taught in the classroom, among other bills.
Several bills passed out of the Mississippi Senate Education Committee late last week, including one that could lead to the consolidation of some school districts within the state. Other bills seek to set cellphone use policies in schools, improve math outcomes, provide financial literacy, and ensure funding for gifted education reaches students.

It’s hard to encapsulate more than 40 years and 800 wins in a single moment. Yet, somehow, William Carey managed to do so.
From former All-Americans to former champions and starters from the early 1980s, generations gathered in Hattiesburg to honor their head coach, Steve Knight, for reaching 800 career wins. The school presented him with a plaque, and behind him stood lifelong Crusaders — all coached and mentored by Knight.

BILOXI, Miss. – The William Carey University men's and women's swim teams delivered another commanding performance on Saturday, rolling past Loyola University in a dual meet at the Biloxi natatorium. Carey earned decisive victories on both sides, with the men winning 167–73 and the women securing a 176–45 victory.

Snow and ice left widespread damage across northern Mississippi as a massive storm moved across large parts of the U.S., creating dangerous travel conditions. Trees split open and dropped heavy branches, and power lines crashed down in some areas.
Though the worst damage was in the northern part of the state, areas as far south as Natchez saw icy conditions.

The winter storm that pushed through the state Saturday and Sunday temporarily knocked out power at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman and Delta Correctional Facility in Greenwood, even as temperatures plunged below freezing.
“At Parchman, we had a limb fall on a line,” Corrections Commissioner Burl Cain told Mississippi Today on Sunday afternoon. “The power is coming back on.”
