The Winona High School girls’ and boys’ basketball teams will be at home Friday night to take on Eupora High School in non-district games.
In games from last week, Winona suffered losses to Yazoo County and Amanda Elzy. Last Friday at Winona, the Lady Tigers and Tigers played host to Yazoo County as both teams dropped their games. The girls fell 56-31 as the Lady Panthers led 15-5 after the first, 29-14 at the half and 43-22 after the third frame.
Amber Stewart led Winona (6-10 overall, 0-4 in Region 3-3A) with 11 points. Jayla Campbell and Ja’najah Turner had six points each.
In the boys’ game, Yazoo County came out on top 51-29 as it outscored the Tigers 28-8 in the second half. The Panthers only led 23-21 at the half.
Ja’mes Bays had eight points, three assists and three steals, and Tristin Purnell tacked on seven points, three steals and two assists. Darius Robinson finished with six points, four assists and three steals, and Chase Richardson had four points, five rebounds and three assists for Winona (5-11, 1-3).
In games against Amanda Elzy from Jan. 10, both teams fell on the road to the Lady Panthers and Panthers.
The girls lost 50-22 as Elzy pulled away in the third period with a 22-4 run after leading 14-11 at the half. Campbell led Winona with 12 points, and Makhalah Coker had four points.
The boys lost 64-31 as the Panthers led 15-6 after one, 36-13 at the half and 49-23 after the third.
Tyler Lockhart had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Purnell had four points. Chance Richardson had three points and two assists.
Winona played at Humphreys County Tuesday.
