The Winona High School girls volleyball team improved to 3-0 after the first week of the 2025 season.
After knocking off Noxapater in three sets in their season opener, the Lady Tigers defeated Kosciusko High School 3-1 last Tuesday and beat Houston High School 3-1 last Thursday.
Against Kosciusko, Winona won the first set 25-13, but the Lady Whippets won the second set 26-24. The Lady Tigers took sets three and four 25-13 and 25-20, respectively.
In the match against Houston, Winona again won the first set, 25-23, but lost the second set 25-20. The Lady Tigers rebounded to win the third set 25-13 and claim the fourth set 25-14.
Winona, which played at Kosciusko Monday and visited Eupora Tuesday, entertains Ethel High School Thursday. The Lady Tigers go to Noxapater Monday and visit Water Valley Tuesday.
J.Z. George volleyball
The Lady Jaguars got off to an 0-2 start to the volleyball season as they dropped games to McAdams High School and Amanda Elzy High School.
Against McAdams, J.Z. George lost 25-9, 25-16 and 25-15. In the match against Elzy, the Lady Jags fell 25-8, 25-21 and 25-15.
J.Z. George, which played host to Elzy Tuesday, visits Ruleville Thursday and goes to Leflore County next Tuesday.
