The Winona-Montgomery School District will join districts across the state to thank school board members during School Board Recognition Week, February 17-21, 2025, for their leadership and service to local school districts and communities. “This week is a special opportunity to express our gratitude for the hard work of our school board members and to thank them for their dedication to this community and its children,” said Dr. Howard Savage, Jr., Superintendent of Winona-Montgomery School District.
More than 700 Mississippians are members of local school boards. The board members who serve on our Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School Board are responsible for setting the vision and goals for the district.
They work to provide a quality education for 1,064 K thru 12 students and oversee an annual budget, which for the 2024-2025 School Year is in the amount of $13,000,000.00.
Our WMSD Board also hires quality educators, sets district goals, adopts policies, and evaluates progress while keeping the interests of our students first. They also serve as the community’s voice in the school district and the district’s voice in the community.
“As school leaders, board members play an important role in engaging our community in supporting our public schools,” said Dr. Savage.
During School Board Recognition Week in Mississippi, the Winona-Montgomery School District invites students, staff, community members, parents, and the citizens of Montgomery County to take part in honoring our WMSD board members. Our plan is to have the marquees at both Winona Elementary School and the Winona Career and Technical Center recognize our Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School Board for this week. In addition, a group of administrators, faculty, staff, and students will be participating in honoring them throughout the week as well.
The individuals currently serving on the WMCSD Board of Trustees for the 2024-2025 School Year are the first fully elected board representing each of the five (5) Montgomery County Supervisor Districts: Mr. Chase DeNoon, Vice-President (District 1); Mrs. Brandye Brannon, Secretary (District 2); Ms. Nora Dunn, President (District 5); Dr. Katherine Hughes, Board Member (District 3); and Ms. Pauline Hall, Board Member (District 4).
