Michael Fleming, 37, of Winona was sentenced to 84 months of incarceration followed by four years of supervised release for possessing with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance. U.S. District Court Judge Glen Davidson imposed the sentence on Jan. 17.
Fleming previously pleaded guilty to the charge, which carried a mandatory minimum five-year sentence. He was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals after sentencing.
“This office will continue to work alongside our local, state and federal partners to hold accountable those individuals who seek to profit from selling dangerous drugs in our communities,” said U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner. “If you choose to make money by selling poison to others, find a new profession or face prison.”
“This sentencing is a testament to the outstanding collaboration between all levels of law enforcement with the North Mississippi U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office,” said Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell. “Through dedication and teamwork, we are making our communities safer and sending a clear message that drug trafficking will not be tolerated in our state.”
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Mims.
“I appreciate the Federal Court accepting our case and the hard work that has been done by all. I expect more to come in the near future,” Montgomery County Sheriff Jeff Tompkins said. “We will continue our fight on drugs. To God be the glory!”
