The City of Winona wrapped up the primary elections for three alderman seats on Tuesday, April 1, with the unofficial results now available.
Chris Herring has emerged as the winner in Ward 2 with 118 votes, compared to Scott Sledge’s 36 votes and incumbent Travis Johnson’s 26 votes.
In Ward 3, there was a rematch between incumbent Archie Flowers and Katrina Bays, resulting in Bays claiming victory with 82 votes, defeating Flowers who received 48 votes.
Incumbent Linda Purnell has retained her Ward 5 seat with an impressive 152 votes, while her challengers Sarah Minnieweather, James Butts Sr., and Jalen Herrod received 43, 41, and 10 votes respectively.
These results remain unofficial until the mandatory five business day certification period concludes.
Approximately 550 Winona residents cast their votes during the 12-hour voting window on Tuesday. This primary election marks the first stage of the City's 2025 municipal elections, with the final contests set for June.
The upcoming general election on June 3 will determine the remaining positions. In the mayoral race, incumbent Aaron Dees will face former mayor Jerry Flowers and challenger Gloria Johnson. Ward 1 Alderman Mickey Austin is running unopposed, while incumbent Ward 4 Alderman Charles Harris will compete against Sharron "Shaye" Collins.
