The Winona High School baseball team didn’t have a good showing on the diamond last week as they went 0-3, falling to 4-8 overall.
The Tigers ended the week with a 7-0 loss to Region 3-3A foe Yazoo County last Friday. Yazoo scored five runs in the first and one run each in the second and fourth innings. The Tigers didn’t help themselves with six defensive errors.
Gavin Vance (2-2) took the loss as he went 3 2/3 innings, yielding seven runs (one earned) on five hits, walking seven and striking out four. Hammond Austin worked 2 1/3 innings, walking two and fanning one.
Wyatt Boone had a double, and Austin had a single for the Tigers, who slipped to 1-2 in region play.
Winona dropped a 13-10 decision to Columbus High School last Tuesday. Boone (0-3) took the loss as he went 4 2/3 innings, allowing 12 runs (five earned) on seven hits, walking four and fanning four. Miles Bailey went 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit, walking two and striking out two.
Bailey, Tommarion Brown, Boone, Kentrell Crawford and Jordan Richardson had a single each for the Tigers. Brown also stole seven bases, and Austin had four steals. Richardson and Crawford had three steals each. Bailey and Vance had two RBIs each, and Brown and Boone drove in one run apiece.
The Tigers fell 14-10 to Louisville High School last Monday in Winona. The Tigers scored two runs in the first, three in the second, four in the third and one in the sixth. Louisville plated one run in the third, two in the fifth, five in the sixth and six in the seventh.
Bailey had two singles, one RBI and scored two runs, and Austin had a double, scored a run and drove in two runs. Brown had a single and two RBIs, and Crawford had a single and scored twice.
Jaylon Oliver and Richardson had a single, RBI and scored a run each. Vance scored two runs.
Austin (1-1) took the loss as he pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief. He allowed six runs (all earned) on six hits, walking one and fanning two. Vance started as he went four innings, yielding three runs (two earned) on no hits, walking six and striking out eight. Brown worked 1 1/3 innings, giving up five runs (all earned) on two hits, walking four and striking out two.
Winona, which had Monday’s game with Noxapater canceled, was slated to host Ruleville Tuesday and go to Amanda Elzy Friday.
