The Winona High School baseball team didn’t have its best week as the Tigers posted a 1-3 record in four games.
Winona (4-5 overall, 1-1 in Region 3-3A) opened the week with an 11-1 loss to Noxapater High School on March 3. No other details were provided.
The Tigers then took on region foe Amanda Elzy last Wednesday and secured a 15-0 win over the Panthers. Winona plated five runs in the first, one in the second and nine in the third. They took advantage of seven defensive errors, six walks and three hit by pitches by the Panthers.
Jordan Richardson had a single and triple, drove in three runs and scored twice. Kentrell Crawford had an RBI triple and scored a run, and Gavin Vance and Jaylon Oliver had a single, RBI and scored a run each.
Hammond Austin had a single and scored a run, and Miles Bailey scored three times. Wyatt Boone and Alston Crouch scored two runs and drove in one run apiece.
Austin (1-0) got the win on the mound as he only allowed one hit and struck out five.
The Tigers played at region foe Humphreys County High School last Friday, dropping a 12-2 decision to the Cowboys. Humphreys scored nine runs in the second, two in the third and one in the fifth. Winona tallied one run each in the third and fourth frames.
Austin had two singles, and Vance had a double and scored a run. Crawford had a single and scored once.
Vance (2-1) took the loss as he went four innings, allowing 11 runs on four hits, walking five and striking out seven. Tommarion Brown gave up one run on one hit, walking one.
The Tigers played host to Senatobia High School last Saturday and fell 11-4 to the Warriors, who scored one run each in the second and seventh innings, six in the fifth and three in the sixth. Winona scored one run apiece in the second and third frames and two in the seventh.
Vance had a single and double, one RBI and scored a run. Crawford had two singles, and Bailey and Oliver had a single and RBI each. Richardson had a single, and Brown, Austin and Boone scored a run each.
Boone (0-2) took the loss as he went 4 2/3 innings, yielding three runs on three hits, walking two and fanning four. Bailey got two outs but not before giving up seven runs on four hits, walking four and striking out one. Austin went 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit, walking one and fanning three.
Winona returns Monday as it entertains Louisville High School. The Tigers visit Columbus Tuesday and go to Yazoo County March 21.
