The Winona High School girls and boys basketball had their seasons come to an end with first-round losses at the Region 3-3A Tournament Monday in Ruleville.
The Lady Tigers dropped a 50-37 decision to Ruleville to finish with a 6-15 overall record. Winona held leads of 8-5 after one and 21-19 at the half, but Ruleville outscored the Lady Tigers 15-6 in the third frame and 16-10 in the fourth period.
Azaria Small had 16 points, and Mikhalah Coker eight for the Lady Tigers. Markeshia Burnett finished with seven, and Arielle Jones had six.
The Tigers lost 68-42 to Yazoo County to finish 3-18 overall. Yazoo County led 22-9 after one, 41-19 at the half and 56-30 after the third frame.
Kentrell Crawford led Winona with 14 points, and Yoshawn Hudson had 10 points. Darrion Crawford tacked on seven points.
Winona closed out the regular season with games at Ruleville Central last Friday and at Amanda Elzy on Jan. 30.
Against Ruleville, the Lady Tigers fell 68-48 as Ruleville pulled away in the third period. Ruleville only led 32-29 at the half and outscored Winona 19-6 in the third and 17-13 in the fourth.
Jones had 16 points, and Small finished with 11 points. Coker had eight points.
In the boys game, Ruleville won 69-20 as it led 33-7 after one, 56-10 at the half and 59-18 after the third period. Jaidan Greenleaf had eight points, and Hudson six.
Against Elzy, the Tigers dropped a 63-23 decision to the Panthers, who led 41-16 at the half and 58-20 after the third period. Greenleaf had 12 points for Winona.
In the girls game, Elzy prevailed 45-30 as it outscored the Lady Tigers 14-3 in the fourth period. Elzy led 12-8 after one, 17-16 at the half and 31-27 after the third quarter. Tamari Ford had 14 points for Winona, and Jones finished with seven points.
