Tamarius Webster, 37, of Cruger, Miss., was sentenced to 70 months in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Debra M. Brown. Additionally, Webster will be required to serve three years of supervised probation upon his release from prison. Webster pled guilty to the charges in federal court in April however the sentencing occurred this past Wednesday.
Carroll Countians may remember that in August of 2022, Webster was being sought in connection with a hostage standoff in southern Carroll County which resulted in a multi-agency manhunt. Webster was eventually located in Oxford the next day by U.S. Marshals. Webster was found in possession of the firearm on the day that he was arrested in that incident.
Sheriff Walker said, “I would like to thank all of the agencies that have been involved with this case for the past two years. I especially appreciate the US Marshals and the US Attorney’s Office for working so diligently to bring this case to justice. The original incident put a lot of people in danger of losing their lives, including a child and law enforcement. I thank the US Attorney’s office for their no-tolerance stance on weapons possession by convicted felons.”
