Carrollton was a topic of heavy discussion at the Nov. 4 Carroll County Board of Supervisors meeting. Firstly, Carrollton Mayor Pam Lee addressed the Board to report on the success of the 2024 Pilgrimage and Pioneer Day festival. To begin, Mayor Lee thanked the Board for their support of the event, expressing the importance of the event to the Carroll County community.
She then read from her annual report, “Our attendance was up, we had folks parked from ‘82 all the way down to the bridge and every other place they could find to park. We had nine states and 23 counties present that we know of.”
In addition to the overview report, Mayor Lee had presented each member with a detailed financial report which included how this year’s event statistics compared to last year.
“Because of your support every year that we’ve done the Pilgrimage, we have built a good reputation,” She stated.
Mayor Lee went on to explain that a new committee has formed for Carroll community events. She reported that the committee has already planned and hosted two successful events in the 2024 year, with one more event in the works as the year comes to an end. Mayor Lee explained that the Carrollton Planning Committee is preparing an event for Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the town will be hosting a “Sip and Shop” event sponsored by Faithworks and The Smocked Kids. At this event the town will host a Christmas lighting celebration. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come for beautiful lights, warm drinks, and an evening of local shopping.
In addition to these events, Mayor Lee spoke briefly with the Board about the new water tower in Carrollton. She reported that the hill has been cleared off and sodded, and the town has contacted Entergy about lighting the hill and tower. She also showed appreciation to Modern Woodmen of America for their generous donation, a bench to be placed at the bottom of the hill for public use.
“Eventually, if we can raise the funds, we want to put one of those historical markers explaining the significance of the tower.” Mayor Lee explained, “Also there are two out on the highway, which have been back there since the 1950s. We want to have those restored - repainted - out by the children’s park.”
