The Winona High School boys basketball team survived an overtime thriller against Region 3-3A foe Amanda Elzy on Jan. 7, defeating the Panthers 42-41.
Elzy held a slim 8-7 lead after the first period, but Winona went in front 19-17 at the half. The Panthers stormed back with a 16-9 advantage in the third frame for a 33-28 lead headed to the fourth. Winona tied the game at 37-37 to force overtime.
Jemarcus Robinson and Ariez Peeples had 10 points each for the Tigers (5-12 overall, 1-1 in region). Darrion Crawford had nine points, and Yoshawn Hudson finished with eight points.
In the girls game, the Lady Panthers picked up a 52-39 win as they led 15-8 after one, 25-13 at the half and 42-24 after the third period.
Ariella Jones had 14 points for the Lady Tigers (5-12, 0-2), and Madison Keys notched nine points. Tamaya Nash had seven points.
Winona had its games with region foe Yazoo County postponed last Friday because of the weather. Winona, which played at Humphreys County Tuesday, entertains West Lowndes Friday and hosts O’Bannon High School Saturday.
