The basketball season for the Winona High School girls and boys teams came to end at the Region 3-3A Tournament at Yazoo County High School last week.
The Lady Tigers dropped a 41-38 decision to Ruleville to finish with an overall record of 8-18. Ruleville held a 12-5 lead after the first period, but Winona fought back to lead 16-15 at the half. Ruleville retook the lead at 29-28 with a 14-12 edge in the third period.
Madison Keys led Winona with 16 points. Ariella Jones had eight, and Mikhalah Coker and Azaria Small had six points each.
The Tigers fell 43-38 to Amanda Elzy, which led 8-7 after one, 23-14 at the half and 34-26 after the third frame.
Ariez Peeples led the Tigers (5-21) with 12 points, and Darrion Crawford, Yoshawn Hudson and Ayden Johnson had six each.
Winona High School is searching for a new varsity girls basketball coach and assistant coaches for girls and boys basketball next year. The openings are listed on the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s website.
