A seventh inning rally by Winona at the Winona Dixie Roofing Tournament came up just short in an 11-9 loss to Kirk Academy.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the second, but found themselves on the short end of an 11-5 score entering the bottom of the seventh. Winona scored four times, but that wasn't quite enough.
Javarius Hemphill had two hits and two RBIs and Griffin Faulkner two hits with one RBI for the Tigers.
In other varsity games at the tournament, Ethel defeated Kirk Academy 11-1 and Water Valley 7-5 and Choctaw County defeated Kirk 13-3.
In an earlier game, Winona loss to French Camp 11-2. As was true in the Kirk game, Winona took an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the third before French Camp scored 11 runs over the next four innings. Hagan Ware, Mitch Stewart and Blake Cooper accounted for Winona's three hits.
The Tigers will get another shot at French Camp in a home game on Friday.
