Jags ready to get baseball, softball started

The J.Z George baseball team was supposed to kick off the season with games against West Bolivar and Greenville Christian at the West Bolivar Classic, but rain prevented that from happening. Instead, the Jaguars will have to wait until Saturday when they are scheduled to play Ethel and the host team at the Winona Tournament.

Lady Tigers stun East Webster in region tourney

Winona surprised East Webster with a box and one defense when the teams met in the semifinals of the Region 4-2A tournament last week, resulting in a 21-19 victory. The Lady Tigers were runners-up in the tournament, with victories over Bruce and East Webster and a 55-37 loss to Calhoun City in the championship game.

Tigers end year with high-scoring performance

Winona had its best offensive performance of the season in the MHSAA Region 4-2A tournament opener against Bruce, but a 90-70 loss ended a winless season for the Tigers.

“Best offensive game, but worst defensive game,” said WHS head coach Presley Coleman.

Hornets open playoffs with 67-53 win
