The Carroll County Antiquities Society will be hosting the 2025 Taste of Soup and Art Exhibit event on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Carrollton Community House from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Carrollton Community House is located at 305 Lexington Street in Carrollton. The beautiful log building was created in 1936 as a Works Progress Administration structure. The building was designed and created utilizing locally sourced materials and workers as a program to create jobs during the Great Depression. The Community House serves as an important local event hosting location for the Carroll Community.
The Taste of Soup event was inspired by an article in Life in the Delta Magazine which detailed a soup tasting event which takes place in Lake Village, Arkansas. Carroll locals decided to host a similar event in which residents and visitors may enjoy tasting local soups in addition to viewing an art exhibition which showcases the creativity of Carroll County locals. At past events, unique and interesting flavors have been offered for taste testing, such as dill pickle soup and strawberry soup. In addition, local artists have taken advantage of this event by displaying arts and crafts which have been passed down through generations, such as tatting, painting, and quilting. Artists featured in the 2025 event are Brenda McCaleb, Allen Winters, C.J. Coleman, and Mila Doubrava.
This year, the Taste of Soup event theme is Good Old-Fashioned Fun and will offer six local soups to be tasted: chili beef soup, macaroni cheeseburger soup, chicken pot pie soup, cowboy soup, cabbage soup, and chicken stew. A number of Door prizes will be available for attendees this year. Tickets for the event will be available at the Carrollton Town Hall during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be available through members of the Antiquities Society. Tickets are often sold out prior to the event due to limited seating availability, however they may be available at the door. To guarantee your seat, purchase a ticket for $10 at the aforementioned locations. All attendees are given a complimentary recipe book with the purchase of a ticket. For the best soup tasting experience, organizers encourage attendees to bring their own regular sized muffin pans to act as a tray for holding each of the soup cups. A tip for attendees is that a dozen-muffin tin will have enough space for cornbread, soup cups, crackers, and drinks.
