Carroll County’s Board of Supervisors recently reached the beginnings of a decision regarding the federally allocated $1.7 million specifically provided for fixing the breach on Gee Lake.
According to Board President Jim Neill of Beat One, Mississippi Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) informed the board of the money specifically allocated for Gee Lake.
After several weeks of discussion, Carroll County’s Supervisors requested Leflore County Supervisors be the sponsors for the project.
Since Gee Lake’s levee protects much of the Delta from flooding, and the Leflore board had a vested interest in the project, they agreed, according to Neill.
The plan is “still in the works,” according to Neill, but the project can now be eligible for funding, as what NRCS needed was a sponsor.
As of yet, no specific decision has been made by the Carroll County Board, since they are not the sponsor for the project.
