The Winona Christian baseball team got off to a good start in district play last week.
The Stars swept a three-game series from Central Holmes, winning 13-0 in the opener on Tuesday. The Stars then swept a doubleheader on Thursday, winning 12-2 and 9-4.
Winona Christian improves to 4-4 on the season and will take a break from district play next week. After hosting Columbus Christian on Tuesday, the Stars will travel to Tri-County for a Thursday doubleheader.
Winona Christian 13, Central Holmes 0
The Stars got a four-inning no-hitter from Brannon Hill as they took a run-rule win over the Trojans to open district play.
Winona scored four in the second, three in the third and six in the fourth on 11 hits and four walks.
Hunter Land was 3-for-3 with a double, home run, three runs scored and five RBIs. Bryce Harville was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored while Jase Osborn was 2-for-2 two doubles and two RBIs. Zack Bledsoe and Hill each doubled and scored twice for the Stars.
Hill was solid on the mound, giving up just one walk as he struck out 11 to take the win.
Winona Christian 12, Central Holmes 2
The Stars scored eight in the first and cruised to a six-inning, run-rule win on Thursday.
Winona led 8-1 after the first and added single runs in the third and fifth and finished with two in the sixth.
Winona Christian had 13 hits in the contest. Jake Ware was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three stolen bases and two RBIs while Trace Carpenter was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Collin Parkinson was 2-for-4 with a double, three stolen bases, two runs scored and two RBIs while Jase Osborn was 2-for-3. Zack Bledsoe doubled, walked twice and scored two runs while Brannon Hill also doubled.
Parkinson started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up one run three hits and five walks while striking out seven. Hunter Land pitched the last inning and gave up one run on two walks.
Winona Christian 9, Central Holmes 4
The Starts built and early lead and scored in six of the seven innings to take a five-run win over the Trojans in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday.
Winona scored two in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth to go up 5-0. After Winona scored one in the fifth, Central Holmes scored two in the bottom of the frame to cut the score to 6-2. But Winona scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh for their final runs while Central Holmes added single runs in the sixth.
Winona Christian had 14 hits in the contest as Jake Ware was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Trace Carpenter was 3-for-3 while Collin Parkinson was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Brannon Hill was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs while Sam Thompson doubled and scored two runs. Hunter Land also doubled and drove in a run.
Trace Carpenter started and pitched five innings, giving up two unearned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out 10. Kiker Carpenter pitched one inning and gave up one run on one hit and three walks while Tyler Schraenkler pitched the last inning and gave up one run on one hit and one walk.
