The Wiona Christian School boys basketball team played its first game of the 2025-26 basketball season Monday night as they hosted longtime rival Carroll Academy.
When the final whistle blew, Coach Joey Johnson’s Stars had won a 41-15 decision.
“It was a good start to the year,” Johnson said. “I was concerned with how we would play after having only one practice. We were a little sloppy on offense and that was to be expected, but we played great defense, controlled the boards and didn’t give them many second chances.”
Sophomore Trey McLendon paced the Stars with 13 points and added 5 rebounds. Junior Austin Horne finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Senior Tyler Schraenkler added 6 points and pulled down 3 rebounds. Sophomore Zack Bledsoe scored 5 points and added a team-best 10 rebounds. Senior Will Irwin finished with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
