It will be a whole different world for several area schools for the next two years.
The Mississippi Association of Independent Schools recently released its realignment for the next two-year sports cycle.
In football, both Winona Christian and Carroll Academy will be a Class 3A school. They will be joined by Marshall, Oak Hill, Tunica and Indianola. Central Holmes was originally in the division but petitioned the MAIS to be moved to Class 4A and was granted its request.
“It is what it is,” Winona Christian Coach Junior Graham said. “We are going to accept the alignment and move forward. Personally, I don’t get how it turned out the way it did. Regardless of how I feel, we are going to line up and play the schedule we are given. It’s not up to me to question but just looking at it, it doesn’t all add up.”
This season, the MAIS used just boys counts for football and split the private schools up to six classes. Class 6A will consist of the largest six schools while Class 1A and Class 2A will be eight-man football schools. Class 3A, 4A and 5A were then split equally among the remaining schools.
In all other sports but football, the MAIS used both boys and girls numbers with only five classes. Winona and Carroll will be in Class 3A as they will compete with Oak Hill, Indianola and Central Holmes
