The Winona Tigers opened the baseball season last week with three games, winning two of those contests.
The Tigers opened with a 21-18 win over French Camp on Tuesday. On Thursday, Winona lost 16-1 to Water Valley and then bounced back to beat Calhoun Academy 9-8.
Winona is scheduled to host Louisville on Tuesday in their only scheduled action this week.
Winona 9, Calhoun Academy 8
The Tigers built and early lead and held off a late rally from Calhoun to take a one-run victory on Thursday.
Winona scored one in the first, two in the second and six in the fourth. Calhoun scored eight in the sixth but Winona held on for the win.
Winona had nine hits in the contest as Dalton Ferguson was 2-for-3 with a double. Connor Helmes and Aiden Eldridge each doubled while Jacob Myers walked three times. Denarius Robinson, Havaris Hemphill and Ja’mes Alexander each singled and drove in a run.
Dalton Ferguson started and pitched five innings and gave up just two hits and two walks while striking out 10. Ashton Hurst and Jacob Myers pitched the last inning.
Water Valley 16, Winona 1
The Tigers issued 12 walks and committed five errors as they dropped a four-inning, run-rule game to Water Valley.
Water Valley scored one in the first, nine in the second and six in the fourth.
Winona had just two hits as Connor Helms doubled and scored a run.
Winona 21, French Camp 18
The Stars held on for a three-run win over the Panthers on Tuesday to open the season.
Winona scored four in the first, two in the third and sixth and 13 in the seventh. French Camp scored two in the third and eight in the sixth and seventh innings.
Winona had 11 hits in the contest and drew 15 walks while French Camp didn’t have a hit but drew 16 walks and had nine hit batters.
Ashton Hurst was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. Griffin Faulkner was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs while Dalton Ferguson was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Aiden Eldridge was 2-for-3 with two walks and three RBIs while Ja’mes Alexander walked three times.
Ferguson, Jacob Myers, Danarius Robinson, Clayton Sheffield and Alexander aloo pitied for the Tigers.
